Toyota FT-1 Concept Review in Pueblo, Colorado

The Toyota FT-1 represents the pinnacle of sports performance for the Toyota line up. While Toyota has dabbled in this kind of performance minded machine in the past, the much lauded maker doesn't currently have any kind of offering that can match what the FT-1 offers. As far as styling goes, the Scion FR-S is currently the only model that can come close to the Toyota FT-1, but even with as stylish as the Scion is it is hardly a match for the Toyota FT-1.
Exterior
The Toyota FT-1 is the kind of vehicle that must really be seen in person to gain a full appreciation of what this machine has to offer. First and foremost, you are bound to notice the liberal application of carbon fiber all over the exterior of this machine. The hood has a clear plastic panel allowing you to see exactly the kind of powertrain that makes this beast move as well. Of course, the overall design of the Toyota FT-1 is just stunning. The front end is angular at first look, but upon close inspection you will find a well rounded design that flows through the entire body of the Toyota FT-1. Bottom line, the Toyota FT-1 is a gorgeous machine.
Interior
Based off of the concept design, the Toyota FT-1 would feature a minimalist interior design that is at the same time similar to a Formula one vehicle and very dissimilar. The aluminum floor boards and pedals are what bring to mind the Formula one vehicles, along with the race inspired steering wheel. Where the deviation begins is in that same wheel though. Instead of gauges and switches all over the wheel the Toyota FT-1 features a much cleaner design and a heads up display.
Mechanical
We don’t know a while lot about the mechanical prowess of the Toyota FT-1 as it has yet to be released to the public for test drives, but what we can gather from Toyota’s prior sports performance machines is that the Toyota FT-1 will certainly not disappoint when it comes to handling. The Lexus LFA, Toyota’s last foray into the high performance vehicle domain provided us with a similar body that allowed for exceptional cornering thanks to the low center of gravity and the sport tuned suspension.
Powertrain
Again, as the Toyota FT-1 is in it’s concept stage, there is no information about what kind of powertrain might be going into this beast. We were able to make a few predictions, however, based on the dimensions of the Toyota FT-1 and press releases hinting at future projects. First off, the Toyota FT-1 appears to have the proper under-hood dimensions for a V6 powerhouse. This would make sense as there have been recent announcements from BMW and Toyota, both hinting at a project and BMW has one of the most popular V6 performance engines in the market.
Safety
The Toyota FT-1 certainty looks like a race track ready machine that would rely more upon a helmet and roll cage for occupant safety, but the Toyota FT-1, if released will be a production vehicle that is subject to the same safety standards as any other vehicle on the road.
