Toyota’s electric vehicles are so popular and selling so well that the automaker has introduced a new brand concept: Prime. This branding was first introduced with the Prius, and the intent is to provide customers who want more with features like larger batteries and an electric-only mode. The RAV4 is the second Toyota nameplate to get the Prime treatment, and this time, Toyota has really taking it up a notch. Not only does Prime offer better batteries for longer driving distance, but the Prime is quicker and faster than the standard RAV4 Hybrid. The 2021 Toyota RAV4 will soon be available at our local Toyota dealership that meets the needs of drivers in Pueblo and throughout the surrounding areas.

The base 2021 Toyota RAV4 SE features 18-wheels as well as design elements that are unique to it, such as its grille, front spoiler and black exterior accents. The XSE has features a sportier appearance package that is comparable to Hybrid XSE. It upgrades the wheels to 19 inches, and allows you to pair any of the colors available for the SE with a black-painted roof for a two-tone motif. Opting for the XSE also upgrades the standard liftgate to a powered version. The XSE also features integrated fog lamps.

The base model will feature a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch instrument panel and a rear backup camera that displays a projected path via the multimedia screen. Amazon Alexa support is added alongside the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that has been available since the generation launched. An optional package adds a moonroof, rear seat heating and a heated steering wheel. The up-level RAV4 includes that optional group. It also has paddle shifters for the first time in a RAV4 ever and adds seat ventilation, a premium audio setup and much more.

Mechanical - Toyota RAV4 Prime specs in Pueblo

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime in Pueblo will feature electric on-demand all-wheel drive. This system uses a dedicated electric motor that automatically provides power to the rear wheels in order to improve traction as needed. The RAV4 Prime will feature a driver-selectable electric-only driving mode. The vehicle does not have an EPA rating as of this writing, but Toyota asserts that the RAV4 can drive 39 miles on a single charge and will be able to average 90 miles per gallon, which is a fantastic achievement in both cases. The engine will also feature a start/stop system that can automatically turn off and start the engine as needed.

The 2021 RAV4 Prime is the most powerful RAV4 ever designed. Toyota has paired a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to a continuously variable transmission and added two batteries that are larger than those found in the standard RAV4. This is not your usual Hybrid setup. Toyota is really innovating on this front. Combined, this powertrain can deliver 302 horsepower and 168 pound-feet of torque. While the final numbers are yet to be settled, Toyota estimates the RAV4 Prime can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 5.8 seconds, which is a full two seconds faster than the standard RAV4. There is no word yet on the tow capabilities, but we can estimate that it will be at least 1,500 pounds based on the current RAV4 with the 2.5-liter engine.

Toyota vehicles in general and the RAV4 in particular have a great reputation for safety. In fact, the current RAV4 has earned a five-star rating from the NHTSA and earned recognition from the IIHS as a Top Safety Pick. This should continue with the 2021 model as they are the same generation and there are no fundamental changes. The base model features a robust infotainment setup with an 8-inch HD color touchscreen integrated with a rearview camera. This system supports voice commands as well as smartphone integration so that that you never have to take your eyes off the road or your hands off the wheel. The base model also gets a driver assistance package that will include a blind-spot monitor, lane-keeping assist and a cruise control system that can automatically adapt to traffic conditions.
