While some SUV nameplates over the years have been transformed into crossovers-being more carlike and more fuel-efficient-the 4Runner has defiantly stuck with the trunk-based mechanics that make it a superior off-roader, in addition to being a remarkable choice as a family vehicle. However, it did start off as a compact vehicle, and now, for the 2018 model year, it is classified as a mid-size SUV. The 4Runner is still in its fifth generation, and the 2018 edition is a carryover from the previous year. Six trims are available, one of which is the Limited. Interior

The 2018 Toyota 4Runner Limited is a seven-seater, with a cargo volume that can be expanded to 88.8 cubic feet when you fold down the second- and third-row seats. With perforated leather trim covering all seats, the front row-which can be heated and cooled-consists of an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory function and power lumbar support, and a 4-way power-adjustable passenger seat. For infotainment, Toyota includes a 6.1-inch high-resolution touchscreen, 15-speaker JBL GreenEdge audio, Bluetooth wireless technology, Siri Eyes Free voice recognition, HD Radio, AM/FM radio tuner, a three-month complimentary subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio, and an auxiliary audio jack and a USB 2.0 port for connecting mobile devices-all tied up in the company's Entune multimedia interface. Other comfort and convenience features on the Limited include dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, a smart keyless entry system with push-button engine start, the HomeLink universal transceiver for remote-controlling garage doors, and auto-dimming ability on the rearview mirror to tame headlights behind you.

Safety

For cushioning and restraint in the event of a car crash, the 2018 4Runner Limited comes with dual front impact airbags, dual front knee airbags, dual side impact airbags, and a pair of all-row side curtain airbags. Power-assisted four-wheel ventilated front disc brakes are on board for keeping stopping distances short. And it is accompanied by brake assist for additional stopping force when necessary, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) for preventing the wheels from locking up during sudden stops, electronic brake-force distribution for proper allocation of braking power, and smart stop technology for stopping the vehicle when there's unwanted acceleration. Toyota provides a one-year trial subscription to Safety Connect for a suite of services that includes emergency assistance, automatic collision notification, roadside assistance, and vehicle locating, as well as a no-cost ToyotaCare maintenance plan. There's also hill start assist control for preventing rollback when shifting from park to drive on a steep slope, vehicle stability control for keeping the 4Runner on the intended driving path, a backup camera with front and rear parking assistance for boosting awareness of your surroundings, and traction control for preventing skidding. For security, the Limited has an anti-theft system that includes engine immobilization.
